Thomas Bangalter is a French musician, record producer, singer, songwriter, composer, and DJ, born in Paris on January 3, 1975. He is married to French actress Élodie Bouchez, with whom he has two sons: Tara-Jay (born 2002) and Roxan (born 2008). Bangalter is best known as one half of the duo Daft Punk, which initially started out as Darlin', with a third member who contributed to the punky thrash that inspired the Daft Punk name. The duo debuted with a single in 1993 and released their first album in 1995. In addition to his work with Daft Punk, Bangalter has also pursued solo projects, including the two Trax On Da Rocks EPs that blended various samples with funky house and techno beats. He released "Music Sounds Better With You" on his own label as part of Stardust, as well as a remix for "Rock Shock." In 1998, his track "Gym Tonic" became controversial when Chris LeFriant, known as Chris The French Kiss, released it as a single without clearing the samples, leading to a lawsuit from Jane Fonda, whose voice was illegally sampled. This incident resulted in Bangalter severing ties with LeFriant. Despite valuing his privacy and anonymity, Bangalter has given a few interviews throughout his career.
