Thomas Köner, born in 1965 in Germany, is a prominent figure in the realm of electronic music and sound design. He studied at the Music College in Dortmund and furthered his education in electronic music at the CEM-Studio in Arnhem. Until 1994, he worked as a sound engineer in film sound. In 2000, he received the "New Media Prize" at the Montreal International Festival New Cinema New Media. Köner's artistic journey began with a focus on sound color, steering away from rhythm and melody, which led him to collaborate with film artists and create live performances, such as "Alchemie" in 1992. He has composed soundtracks for silent films at the Louvre Museum in Paris and has been involved in installation work that merges visual and auditory experiences. Notable collaborations include "List Of Japanese Winds" with Max Eastley, commissioned by the Hayward Gallery in London, and a sound installation for the Centre Georges Pompidou. Köner also explores sound in club culture, viewing it as a space for intensive listening. His collaboration with other artists has established him as a notable producer of progressive techno, leading to remix commissions for Nine Inch Nails and a Claude Debussy remix for Universal Music.
