Three 6 Mafia is an American hip-hop group from Memphis, Tennessee, established in 1991. The original members included Paul Beauregard, Jordan Houston, and Ricky Dunigan. Initially named "Backyard Posse" and later "Triple Six Mafia," the group began by creating horrorcore music. They released several EPs through their own record company with Nick Scarfo before launching their own label. As they developed their career, Three 6 Mafia helped propel the careers of several other rappers. Before the release of their album "Mystic Stylez," they added members Robert Cooper, Lola Mitchell, and Darnell Carlton. Over the years, the group evolved from an underground hardcore rap sensation to enjoying mainstream success, even winning an Oscar and achieving major hits. The group's lineup varied with each album, but the duo of Juicy J and Paul remained constant as both producers and rappers. Notable affiliates included various artists throughout their career. The production skills of Juicy and Paul led to several side projects and independent label ventures, initially conducting business as a specific entity before working out deals with various partners.
