Throbbing Gristle was an influential industrial group that emerged from an extreme performance art background. They officially formed on September 3, 1975, and began performing in 1976, with their last gig taking place in San Francisco in 1981, which was recorded and released as "Mission Of Dead Souls." The group officially disbanded on June 23, 1981. After their split, members Genesis and Peter formed a new project, while Chris and Cosey pursued their own endeavors. In 2004, Throbbing Gristle reunited for a planned festival that ultimately fell through, resulting in a one-off recording session in London, leading to the release of the limited TGNOW album. This was followed by a series of new releases, remasters, and live performances. In 2010, Genesis withdrew from touring, prompting the remaining members to rename themselves. However, Peter's death in November of that year marked the end of Throbbing Gristle/X-TG. A final release under the name X-TG came out in 2012. Notably, Throbbing Gristle operated as an organization, requiring all releases to be approved collectively, with most official releases issued by specific labels, though some exceptions exist.
