Tia Blake, born Tia Blake Wallman on April 13, 1952, in Columbus, Georgia, was a folk music singer, writer, and editor. She grew up in North Carolina and worked for a book publishing company in New York City for six months in 1970 before moving to Paris. In 1971, she unexpectedly secured a recording contract that led to the release of her single LP featuring 11 public domain folk compositions in February 1972. The album was released by SFPP and was promoted with only one live performance in Paris. After that summer, Blake left France and never returned. In 1976, while living in Montreal, she recorded several original songs at the Canadian Broadcasting Company studio. By 1979, she was collaborating with other artists, providing backing vocals during the recording of an album. Tia Blake graduated from Smith College in 1989 and became a freelance writer and editor, returning to North Carolina. She contributed to the UK literary magazine Granta, with one of her pieces published posthumously. Tia Blake Wallman passed away from breast cancer on June 17, 2015, at Manor Care in Pinehurst, NC, and was buried alongside her two brothers, Chris and Peter, in North Hatley, Quebec, Canada.
