Timothy 'Tim' Blake (born 6 February 1952, London) is a renowned synthesizer and keyboard player who gained prominence with his work in the music scene, particularly through his solo endeavors and as a member of notable bands. He was one of the first performers to incorporate electronic instruments into live performances, and his Crystal Machine project was an early example of integrating laser lighting in concerts. Despite his significant influence not being fully recognized by mainstream media, he has had a profound impact on musicians and industry insiders, including notable figures like Steve Hillage and Jean Phillipe Rykiel. After leaving Gong in 1975, Blake's solo career flourished under the name Crystal Machine, where he pioneered the use of laser light shows. His album "Crystal Machine," released in 1977, showcased his innovative approach to live performances. Blake's contributions to the world of light shows and illumination, particularly through his collaboration with Patrice Warrener, have transformed the landscape of live visual experiences.
