**Tipica 73 Biography** Tipica 73 is a salsa band based in New York City, formed in late 1972. The band's history reflects the fragmentation of salsa bands during the 1970s salsa boom. The original lineup included five members who split from Ray Barretto's band at its peak: lead singer Adalberto Santiago, timbales player Orestes Vilató, conga player Johnny 'Dandy' Rodríguez, trumpeter René López, and bassist Dave Pérez, along with pianist/arranger Sonny Bravo and trombonist Leopoldo Pineda. They began as a two trumpet/trombone-led conjunto playing típico Latin music, releasing their debut album, "Típica 73," in 1973 on the Inca label. Their follow-up albums included "Típica 73 '74" and "La Candela" in 1975, the latter featuring a cover of a Cuban hit by Juan Formell. Musical differences regarding the band's direction led to a split in 1976, with Vilató, Santiago, Mannozzi, and González leaving to form Los Kimbos. This new band released their self-titled LP in 1976, followed by "The Big Kimbos" in 1977. Tipica 73 continued with a reformed lineup, releasing "Rumba Caliente" in 1976, introducing young Cuban violinist Alfredo de la Fé and lead vocalist Tito Allen. Their album "
