Tita Duval, born Dominga Salazar Azula in 1924 in Argentina, was a talented accordionist, saxophonist, and singer who made her mark in Medellín, Colombia. She gained early success in the 1940s by introducing live tango music to the cooler climate of Antioquia, where she later opened her own restaurant/cabaret, El Tambo de Aná, serving as the house band and performing frequently. Throughout her career, she toured Colombia and other countries, including a visit to São Paulo, Brazil, in the late 1950s. In addition to tango, Duval embraced the tropical music of Colombia's coastal regions, achieving hits with tracks like ‘Cumbia A Go-Go’ in the 60s and ‘Oye Mi Cumbia’ in the early 70s. She was celebrated for her unique ability to interpret both tangos and cumbias, a rare combination in the music scene. Later in her career, she sought to modernize her sound, collaborating with Isaac Villanueva, Fruko, and the Fuentes crew in 1974, and recorded “Cumbias internacionales” with her husband, Roberto Rey (Adán Azula).
