Tito Puente was an American Latin bandleader and musician, born on April 20, 1923, in Spanish Harlem, New York City, New York. He was of Puerto Rican heritage and became known as "El Rey Del Timbal" ("The King Of The Timbales"). Throughout his career, he was recognized for his contributions to jazz, salsa, and mambo music. Puente was a versatile musician, playing various instruments including the vibraphone, drum kit, conga drums, claves, piano, and occasionally the saxophone and clarinet. He passed away on May 31, 2000, in New York City.
