Tito Puente was an American musician, songwriter, bandleader, and dancer known for his contributions to Latin music, particularly mambo and salsa. Born on April 20, 1923, in New York City, he was of Puerto Rican descent and began playing music at a young age. Puente was a talented percussionist and is often referred to as "The King of Mambo." Throughout his career, he recorded numerous albums and became a prominent figure in the Latin jazz scene, collaborating with various artists and influencing many musicians. He passed away on May 31, 2000. His orchestra was known for its vibrant performances and innovative arrangements that helped popularize Latin music in the United States and beyond.
