Todd Rundgren is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer, born on June 22, 1948, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. He began his career in the blues band Woody's Truck Stop before forming the band Nazz in 1967, which achieved chart success with songs like "Open My Eyes" and "Hello It's Me." Rundgren left Nazz in 1969 to pursue a solo career, releasing albums such as Runt (1970), Runt: The Ballad of Todd Rundgren (1971), and the double LP Something/Anything? (1972), on which he wrote, performed, and produced three of the four sides. Throughout his career, Rundgren has explored various musical styles, from pop to heavy metal and soul, as demonstrated in albums like A Wizard, A True Star (1973), Todd (1974), and Initiation (1975). He also released progressive and experimental material with his backing band Utopia. Notable solo works include Faithful (1976), Hermit of Mink Hollow (1978), Healing (1981), The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect (1983), and A Cappella (1985). Utopia disbanded in 1986 after a series of live and studio albums. After a brief hiatus, Rundgren returned with the live studio album Nearly Human (1989) and 2nd Wind (1991), performed before a silent audience. In 1993
