Todd Terje, born in May 1981 in Mjøndalen, Norway, is a Norwegian DJ, songwriter, and record producer. Initially training to become a pianist, he enrolled at a local music school but found the jazz curriculum lacking. This led him to shift his focus to studying physics at the University of Oslo. Growing up in a rural area with limited dance music influences, Terje was gradually exposed to dance culture in the early to mid-1990s through national radio stations featuring underground DJs like Olle Abstract and Pål "Strangefruit" Nyhus from Mungolian Jetset. On a personal note, Terje's sister was a close friend of Tore "Erot" Kroknes, known for his work with Telle Records and for producing Annie's classic disco pop single "The Greatest Hit." The tapes his sister brought home from Erot were a significant source of inspiration for him. In his early teens, Terje experimented with house and jungle music on a cheap PC alongside his friend Dølle Jølle, playing their creations at junior high school dances. His perspective on disco changed in 1999 when he heard Bjørn Torske’s "Sexy Disco," reigniting his passion for the genre.
