Formed in 1976 in Japan, the Tohru Aizawa Quartet is a jazz ensemble led by pianist Tohru Aizawa, alongside bassist Takashi Tobé, drummer Tamao Shiraishi, and saxophonist Kiyoshi Uemura. Their sole album, *Tachibana*, originally self-released in limited quantities, became a sought-after collectors’ gem for its fiery blend of post-bop, modal jazz, and youthful improvisational energy. Rediscovered decades later and reissued to critical acclaim, the quartet’s music is celebrated for its passion, technical precision, and reflection of Japan’s vibrant 1970s jazz scene.
