Tom Browne is an American soul, jazz, and jazz-funk singer, songwriter, trumpeter, and recording artist, born on October 30, 1954, in Queens, New York City, New York, USA. A student at New York's High School of Music and Art, he became a regular on the New York jazz scene. In 1978, after performing at a New York uptown club, he received several solo recording contract offers and ultimately signed with a label that was then distributed by another company. Browne has collaborated with various artists and recorded eleven solo albums between 1979 and 2010. His most well-known track, from his second solo album released in 1980, is the long version of a single that remains a favorite among dance DJs worldwide; it serves as a memoir of the Jamaica neighborhood in Queens where he was born and raised.
