Tom Dissevelt was a Dutch composer and jazz musician born on March 4, 1921, in Leiden, Netherlands. He passed away in 1989 in Soest, Netherlands. Known for being one of the most experimental musicians in the Netherlands, Dissevelt was hired in 1956 by Philips to explore new ways of making music based on scientific principles in their natural sciences laboratory. Alongside collaborators, he produced electronic experimental music from 1956 to 1963, seven years before the release of the Dr. Who theme, which is recognized as one of the first electronic music pieces. However, his musical compositions and recordings were not well received by Philips, leading him to leave the company. He later played bass for various groups but eventually became a forgotten musician. Fifteen years after his death, his wife Rina, the sister of a notable figure, discovered a crate of tapes in their attic. She made these tapes available to music historians, resulting in a reissue of his works in 2004.
