Tomasz Stańko was a Polish trumpeter, composer, and improviser, born on July 11, 1942, in Rzeszów. He passed away on July 29, 2018, in Warszawa. Known for his association with free jazz and avant-garde music, Stańko's work was marked by innovation from the outset. He was a member of Jazz Darings, one of the first free jazz bands in Europe. His collaboration with Komeda produced an album considered a masterpiece, while another album, included in the exclusive ECM Touchstones series, served as an important reference for American jazz musicians.
