Tommy Youngblood was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi, and began his career in secular show business under the mentorship of Memphis legend Roscoe Gordon, following an early background in gospel music. After serving in the armed forces, he moved to Los Angeles, where he joined Jessie Belvin in the group Shields and recorded the hit "You Cheated You Lied" in 1958. As a solo artist, Youngblood embraced R&B, showcasing his powerful and authoritative voice. He was also a talented songwriter, writing most of his own material. Despite his abilities, he struggled to achieve a major hit in the competitive Los Angeles soul blues scene of the 1960s. Tommy Youngblood passed away on June 12, 2011.
