Toni Smith, born Thomassina Carrollyne Smith in The Bronx, New York, was a talented singer, actress, songwriter, comedian, arranger, vocal arranger, and self-taught pianist. She began her singing career at the age of six and started performing professionally at twelve with her first band, the “Lindell Experience.” After seeking new opportunities, she joined another band called “Bronkz” and left home at eighteen to fully pursue her music career. Toni performed with an oldies group alongside one of the original members, allowing her to showcase her talent at various theaters in Los Angeles, including the Ampi-theatre and the Shrine Auditorium, and even opened for headline acts for Dick Clark productions. Toni's career took a significant turn when she met Tom, with whom she began collaborating on original material. This partnership led to the creation of the disco funk hit “Funkin’ For Jamaica,” co-written by Toni and released on Arista/GRP Records, which reached number one for five consecutive weeks. She also co-wrote the Gold-certified “Thighs High” and “Let’s Dance” on the follow-up album "Magic," as well as "Jam Fo’ Real." Her vocal talents were featured in various television commercial jingles. Throughout her career, Toni provided vocal arrangements for several artists and did session work for various music groups.
