Toñín Romero was born in 1919 in the Coabey sector of Jayuya and became an adopted son of the city of Ponce, where he lived until his death. He was a prominent figure in the décima and plena music genres and a dedicated promoter of traditional music through his radio programs, including "La Hora Campesina" on WPAB and "Fiesta en el Batey" on WISO, as well as his own record label, JARM. Toñín performed weekly on a radio program in Ponce with his group. His family was also involved in music, with his brothers Moisés and Esteban and his son appearing on the television program "Borinquen Canta." Although Toñín did not record extensively, he composed several notable songs, such as "Ni De Madera Son Buenas," "Con El Casco Del Juey," "El Charlatán," and "El Cofresito."
