Tonus Peregrinus is an established ensemble founded by composer Antony Pitts in 1990 during his studies with Dr. Edward Higginbottom at New College, Oxford. The group focuses on recording Music for a Large Audience and has built a significant discography with labels such as Hyperion and Naxos. The ensemble has received acclaim from notable publications including BBC Music Magazine, Fanfare, Gramophone, and The Telegraph, with descriptions such as “utterly spellbinding” and “gloriously sung by this superb choir.” Their debut release, Arvo Pärt’s Passio, won a prestigious Cannes Classical Award and was named Editor’s Choice in Gramophone, along with the Hyperion album Seven Letters and other sacred choral music. Tonus Peregrinus has performed at remarkable occasions, including memorials for Alexander Litvinenko, and has produced innovative live performances such as a semi-staged version of Guillaume de Machaut’s 14th-century work, Le Voir Dit. Their projects include The Naxos Book of Carols, which reached millions of homes in the UK, and a studio rendition of Tears for Fears’s "Mad World."
