Tony Allen was a Nigerian drummer, composer, and songwriter known for his influential role in the development of Afrobeat music alongside Fela Kuti. Born on July 20, 1940, in Lagos, Nigeria, Allen's innovative drumming style and rhythmic complexity helped shape the sound of Afrobeat, blending traditional African rhythms with jazz, funk, and highlife. He was not only a key collaborator with Fela Kuti but also had a successful solo career, releasing numerous albums that showcased his unique musical vision. Allen's contributions to music earned him recognition as one of the greatest drummers in the world. He passed away on April 30, 2020.
