Tony Pabón was an American/Puerto Rican vocalist, trumpet player, arranger, and composer, born on March 6, 1939, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He passed away on January 21, 2014, after living in New York City. Pabón was influential in the creation of the boogaloo genre and began his career in his teens, playing with Latin musicians who would later become prominent figures in the Latin music scene. His first recording experience was with an orchestra known as "La Magnífica," and later he worked with other ensembles. In 1966, his song "Micaela" became a huge hit for The King of Boogaloo. After the boogaloo era, Pabón left Pete Rodriguez and founded his own orchestra with dissatisfied musicians from the orchestras of top Latin artists, releasing several LPs in the 1970s.
