Tranquillity is a Swedish metal band hailing from Gothenburg, originally formed in December 1989 under the name Septic Broiler. In 1991, they changed their name to Dark Tranquillity. The band is often recognized as one of the pioneers of the Gothenburg metal or melodic death metal genre, alongside other notable bands such as At The Gates and In Flames. The current lineup includes Mikael Stanne, who has been with the band since 1991, initially playing guitar until 1993 and then taking on vocals. Martin Brändström has contributed keyboards and electronics since 1999. Johan Reinholdz joined as a guitarist in 2020, while Christian Jansson and Joakim Strandberg Nilsson became the bassist and drummer, respectively, in 2022. Peter Lyse Karmark is set to join as a rhythm guitarist in 2024.
