Trevor Wishart (born 1946, Leeds, England) is a prominent figure in electro-acoustic music, active since the early 1970s. His work encompasses tape manipulation, computer pieces, and musical theatre, with a strong focus on musical education, collaborative projects, and original vocal techniques. He completed his doctorate in musical composition at the University of York in 1973 and has conducted systematic research into vocal-speech figures and their notation, emphasizing computer technologies. Wishart has authored several theoretical books on musical composition, philosophy, and sociology, including "Whose Music?.. A Sociology of Musical Languages," "On Sonic Art. Music in a Technological Age," and "Audible Design: A Plain and Easy Introduction to Practical Sound Composition." He has also produced educational works such as "Sounds Fun" and "Sun." His theoretical and practical productions have been featured in various international collections and journals, including the Computer Music Journal, Leonardo, and Contemporary Music Review. Wishart has taught music and composition at numerous British institutions, including the University of Nottingham, University of Leeds, and University of York, as well as abroad in places like Tokyo, Madrid, Paris, Berlin, Kyoto, Helsinki, Sydney, The Hague, and Lund.
