Tribe is an American funk group led by Earl J. Foster Jr. The band was initially formed when producer Difosco T. "Big Dee" Ervin recruited Foster from The Fourth Parallel to create a single titled "Coke" (also known as "Koke" or "Smoke"), which achieved chart success. Following this, Foster changed the name of his band to Tribe and signed with ABC-Dunhill Records, where they released two albums: "Ethnic Stew" and "Tribal Bumpin'." Subsequently, Tribe moved to the indie label Farr Records, recording their final album of that era, "Dedication," with a different lineup. The lineup for "Coke" featured Earl J. Foster Jr. playing all instruments and singing all vocals. For "Ethnic Stew," the lineup included Foster (keyboards & vocals), Robert P. Apodaca (bass & vocals), Benton Miles Little (drums & vocals), Edward H. Romias (guitar & vocals), and Donald D. Eubanks (percussion & vocals). The "Tribal Bumpin'" album had a similar lineup, with the addition of Gelon Lau (violin & vocals). The "Dedication" album was produced by Jardine Clyde Powell, Harold Davis, and Earl J.
