Trio Nordestino is a prominent Brazilian group known for its influence in the Forró music style, originating from the State of Bahia. The trio began its journey in 1958 and released its first LP in 1963. The most recognized lineup consisted of Cobrinha (José Pedro Cerqueira, triangle and backing vocals), Coroné (Evaldo dos Santos Lima, zabumba and backing vocals), and Lindú (accordion and vocals). Following Lindú's passing in 1982, Genário, who had a successful solo career, joined as the accordionist and lead vocalist until 1992, when he returned to his solo endeavors. Cobrinha and Coroné passed away in 1994 and 2005, respectively. The group has undergone several lineup changes and remains active as of 2020. Trio Nordestino was involved in a legal dispute over naming rights with another group of the same name, with some sources indicating that they won the dispute around 1970, though the other trio continued to use the name in recordings for years afterward. Notable witnesses to the dispute included various artists from the music scene. The current formation of Trio Nordestino includes Luiz Mário (vocals and triangle), Beto Souza (accordion), and Coroneto (zabumba).
