Tristeza is a band formed in San Diego, California, in the spring of 1997. The original lineup consisted of Christopher Sprague (guitar), James LaValle (guitar), Luis Hermosillo (bass), and James Lehner (drums), with their first gig taking place in September of that year. Shortly after, Stephen Swesey joined as the keyboardist, and the band recorded their debut release, the Foreshadow 7", in December 1997, which came out the following spring. They recorded "Spine and Sensory" in the autumn of 1998 with Tim Green at Louder Studios in San Francisco, and the album was released by Makoto Recordings in April 1999. The band also released the "Insound Tour-support Series Vol. 1" EP-CD and the "Macrame 7" that same year, both of which sold out during their tours. In April 2000, the band took a brief hiatus from touring to record their second album, "Dream Signals in Full Circles," with producer Dave Trumfio at King Size Sound Labs in Chicago. Released by Tiger Style Records in September 2000, the album received positive reviews, leading to Tristeza's first headlining tours in Europe and Japan in early 2001. Following
