Tsehaytu Beraki was an Eritrean krar player and Tigrinya singer, born on September 1, 1939, in Quatit, Eritrea, which was an Italian colony at the time. She began playing the krar at the age of 8 and moved to Addis Ababa in the 1960s to record music for Philips. During the civil war between Ethiopia and Eritrea in the 1970s, she left the country, first relocating to Sudan and eventually settling in the Netherlands in 1988, where she continued to perform traditional Tigrinya music. Tsehaytu Beraki passed away on May 24, 2018, in Holland.
