Tumi Molekane, born in 1981 in exile in Tanzania, is a South African hip-hop rapper and recording artist. He returned to Soweto, South Africa in 1992 and was formerly known as "MC Fatboy." Tumi is an MC and poet who has made significant contributions to the Johannesburg hip-hop scene. He is a member of a nine-piece crew that includes Zee, Strawmoon, Space2wice, McWillie, Neo Shamiyaa, and Dilseng. The group released the well-received album "APT: An Artistic Representation Of Truth" in 2001. Tumi released his debut album "The Tao Of Tumi" in the same year and published a collection of poems titled "The Black Inside Out." In 2002, he saw the vinyl/CD release of his EP "A Dream Led To This" in Australia, along with further collaborations with an Australian MC/producer. As the frontman for a band formed in 2002, which included Tiago, Paulo, Dave, and Kyla, Tumi achieved success with their debut live album "At The Bassline" in 2004, earning three nominations for South African Music Awards (SAMA). The band's self-titled sophomore effort and first studio album was released in 2006, with additional distribution in Canada and Germany.
