Turid, whose real name is Marit Turid Lundqvist, was born on November 16, 1949, in Stockholm, Sweden. She is a singer, songwriter, composer, and musician proficient in piano and guitar, and has been active in the music scene since 1966. In her early career, Turid won Sveriges Radios song contest with her original songs and made an appearance on Hylands hörna, Sweden's equivalent of 'The Johnny Carson Show'. She participated in the yearly Song Festival in Västervik in 1969 and performed at the second Musikfesten in 1970 at Gärdet, a green area in Stockholm. Her debut album was released in 1971. Turid became involved in the "proggen" movement, the Swedish version of the politicized music movement of the late 1960s, and was often compared to other artists of the time. She was also engaged in the Women's Liberation movement. Throughout the early 1970s, she frequently collaborated with a rock band and was part of an all-female group in 1974. In 1976, she released an album with Lena Ekman and Jan Hammarlund.
