Ty, born Chijioke on 17 August 1972 in London, England, was a British rapper, producer, and spoken word artist of Nigerian descent. He gained notoriety on the London underground hip hop scene and signed to a label in 2001. His album "Upwards," released in 2003, earned him a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize. In January 2013, he signed to another label. Tragically, he passed away on 7 May 2020 in London at the age of 47 due to pneumonia after intensive treatment for COVID-19 during the 2020-2021 coronavirus pandemic.
