Tyrone Brunson, also known by his nickname "Tystick," was a US bassist, singer, songwriter, and producer born on March 22, 1956, in Washington, D.C. He gained prominence in the 1970s by playing in local funk bands. In 1982, Brunson was signed to a record label and released his first single, the instrumental "The Smurf," which became popular in New York's dance scene and earned international club recognition. However, as the smurf trend faded, so did Brunson's commercial success. Despite releasing three albums throughout the 1980s, he struggled to replicate the success of his debut single. Later in his career, he provided background vocals for various artists and was the leader of "The Family" as well as a member of Osiris. Eventually, he transitioned to a career as a teacher of computer networking. Tyrone Brunson passed away on May 25, 2013.
