U. Brown, born Huford Benjamin Brown on June 8, 1956, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a renowned reggae deejay known for his influential music career. He released eleven albums between 1976 and 1984. Growing up in Bond Street, Kingston, he lived close to Duke Reid's Treasure Isle studio and was heavily influenced by notable artists such as U-Roy, Big Youth, Dennis Alcapone, Prince Jazzbo, and I-Roy. Brown began his career in the early 1970s with the Silver Bullet sound system and later moved to Sound of Music, where he replaced U-Roy on the King Tubby's Hi-Fi system in 1975. His first recording opportunity came from Winston Edwards and Yabby You, leading to a local hit in 1976 with "Starsky and Hutch." He subsequently released a series of albums produced by Bunny Lee and signed with Virgin Records in the late 1970s, releasing two albums on their Front Line label. This contract allowed him to frequently travel to the United Kingdom, where he performed with the Unity Hi Power sound system. In 1982, Brown made a comeback with "Tu Sheng Peng," a version of Dennis Brown's "If This World Were Mine." He established his own label in 1977 to produce his work.
