U2 is an Irish rock band from Dublin, formed in 1976. They began their legacy by rooting their music in the political turmoil surrounding them. After producing their first three albums, U2 sought a more sophisticated and experimental sound. They hired producers to create "The Unforgettable Fire" and "The Joshua Tree," both of which gained them worldwide recognition. As the 1980s came to a close, U2 reinvented themselves once again, incorporating elements of electronics into their rock sound with "Achtung Baby." Bono and the band increasingly used their notoriety to express their opinions on social matters on a global scale. U2 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 as a Performer. The band consists of members Paul David Hewson (also known as Bono), David Howell Evans (also known as The Edge), Adam Charles Clayton, and Lawrence Joseph Mullen Jr.
