UK Decay, originally formed as The Resistors, emerged from Luton in the winter of 1978. They quickly gained recognition within the UK punk scene, sharing stages with many of the original punk bands and even performing in the US. The band released several singles and an LP through Fresh Records before establishing their own label. Their final studio recording was an EP released in 1982 on a Crass label. In early 1983, a posthumous live cassette titled "A Night for Celebration," capturing their last performance at Klub Foot in Hammersmith in December 1982, was released. After the band's breakup, the remaining members went on to form new projects with members of the post-punk/early goth band Ritual. UK Decay is noted for being one of the pioneering bands that transitioned from punk to the emerging "Gothic" scene in the late '70s London, preceding other gothic and post-punk bands like Bauhaus, Theatre of Hate, and Southern Death Cult. Their earlier singles were distinctly punk, and they appeared on compilations representing both punk and gothic music, influencing the English punk rock video compilation "UK/DK." Alongside Theatre of Hate and Southern Death Cult, UK Decay is associated with bands such as The Dark, Crisis, and Warsaw, which would later evolve into Joy Division.
