Ultravox, originally formed in London in 1973, was a British new wave band that gained significant popularity between 1980 and 1986, achieving seven Top Ten albums and seventeen Top 40 singles in the UK. Their most notable hit was "Vienna," released in 1981. The band's early lineup featured the vocals of John Foxx (real name not provided), alongside Billy Currie, Chris Cross, and Warren Cann, with Stevie Shears on guitar for the first two albums. They later replaced Shears with Robin Simon for their third album, "Systems of Romance," marking the transition to a lineup that dropped the exclamation mark from their name. After John Foxx left the band in 1979 to pursue solo projects, Simon also departed, leading Currie, Cross, and Cann to bring in Midge Ure as the new vocalist and guitarist. This lineup became the most successful and well-known, producing ten UK Top Twenty singles and seven UK Top Twenty albums, including hits like "Hymn" and "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes." In May 1986, tensions led to Warren Cann being asked to leave the band prior to the recording of the poorly received U-Vox album. The band then used a different drummer but disbanded shortly after the album's release.
