Formed in May 1971 in Norman, Oklahoma, Uptown Syndicate was a dynamic ensemble celebrated for their high-energy performances blending funk, rhythm and blues, and soulful ballads. Emerging from the vibrant fraternity and sorority scene at the University of Oklahoma, particularly the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the band quickly gained popularity across campuses. With a powerful horn section, two strong vocalists, and a formidable rhythm section, they were considered local rivals to Tulsa's Gap Band. Despite their extensive touring and nearly 50 members over nine years, Uptown Syndicate recorded only two singles, now compiled in the release "Hot Oklahoma Nights."
