Uptown Syndicate was a dynamic band formed in Norman, Oklahoma, in May 1971. Over the course of nine years, the band featured nearly 50 members and became known for their high-energy performances that blended Funk and Rhythm and Blues with soulful ballads. Originating from fraternity and sorority parties at Oklahoma University, particularly with the Alpha-Phi-Alpha fraternity, Uptown Syndicate quickly gained popularity across various campuses. They were regarded locally as one of the top show bands, rivaling the Gap Band from Tulsa. Despite their acclaim, the band recorded only two singles, likely due to their demanding touring schedule. The group's lineup included a powerful horn section, two strong vocalists, and a solid rhythm section.
