Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a world-renowned Pakistani musician, celebrated primarily as a singer of Qawwali, the devotional music of Sufis, a mystical tradition within Islam. He was born on October 13, 1948, in Lyallpur, Punjab, Pakistan, and passed away on August 16, 1997, at Cromwell Hospital in London, England. Nusrat came from a family with an unbroken tradition of performing Qawwali for approximately 600 years. He was the older brother of, cousin of, and uncle of notable figures in the music industry.
