Val Young, also known as Lady V, was rumored to have been discovered in the late 1970s when she was allegedly incorporated into one of the acts in a famous music producer's stable. However, these facts are currently under discussion due to contradictory information from an ex-vocalist. Val joined a group where she was featured on the funk classic "Oops Upside Your Head" and also recorded as a background vocalist during that time. After five albums with the group, she caught the attention of black music trailblazer James, who was impressed by her striking appearance and musical talents, promoting her as the "Black Marilyn Monroe." He produced her 1985 hit album "Seduction," which included two top 30 R&B hits. One successful single, "If You Should Ever Be Lonely," was released in 1986 before Val left James's umbrella to pursue a solo career at Amherst, where she released a 12" single titled "Private Conversations" in 1987. Since then, Val has maintained a low profile, recording background vocals sporadically for various rap acts. Recently, she joined a reformed group, taking the place of the lead singer.
