Valerie Simpson, born on August 26, 1946, in The Bronx, New York, is an American songwriter and singer. She formed a songwriting-production team with her husband, Nickolas Ashford, and they are often credited together on releases. In recognition of her contributions to music, Simpson was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002.
