Van Allen Cinton McCoy, born on January 6, 1940, was an American solo artist, singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer. He co-founded a label and is often recognized for his work as a disco producer in the 1970s. In the early days, he was part of a doo wop group called The Starlighters, alongside his brother Norman McCoy, and they released the single "The Birdland." Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, McCoy released numerous singles as a solo artist and wrote and produced hits for many other artists. His last album was titled The Lonely Dancer. Van McCoy passed away from a heart attack at the age of 39 on July 6, 1979.
