Vangelis, born on March 29, 1943, in Agria near Volos, Greece, was a renowned Greek composer and arranger known for his work in electronic, progressive, ambient, and classical orchestral music. He was also a painter, starting his artistic journey at a young age. Vangelis began writing music when he was just 4 years old and performed his first live concert at the age of 6. He took up painting at 7 and held his first exhibition in 2003, showcasing 70 paintings in Valencia, Spain, which later toured South America until the end of 2004. In the 1960s, he became a founding member of a musical group and achieved success as part of another group in the early 1980s. Vangelis is best known for composing iconic film soundtracks, including 'Blade Runner,' 'Chariots Of Fire,' and '1492: Conquest of Paradise.' Throughout his career, he released over 60 albums, many of which were collaborations. Vangelis passed away on May 17, 2022, in Paris, France, at the age of 79 due to complications from SARS-CoV-2.
