Vaughan Mason & Crew is an American funk and post-disco group, best known for their hit single "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll," which reached #5 on the US Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart in 1980, capitalizing on the roller disco trend of the time. The group was formed by Vaughan Mason, who had the idea to create a song centered around roller skating in 1979. He collaborated with fellow recording engineer John Freeman to assemble a team of musicians, including lead vocalist Jerome Bell, to bring the song to life. The single "Jammin' Big Guitar," released in 1981, also charted, reaching #65. "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll" has been sampled by several artists, including The Game, De La Soul, Mr. Magic, Heavy D, and Lil Kim. Vaughan Mason & Crew had a fluid lineup, with Vaughan being the primary member and a rotating cast of musicians for performances. Jerome Bell was the only other member interested in touring when the group was invited to open for Prince and Rick James. Vaughan's second single, "Roller Skate," also gained popularity before Billboard clarified it was part of an album rather than a standalone single. Mason continued to create music, writing and performing "Jammin' Big Guitar" while hiring musicians for tours. Today, Vaughan Mason & Crew still tours the U.S., with Vaughan as the only original member, alongside Dimitri Reeves and Ezell Jones
