Velocette, the recording alias of San Francisco-based ambient techno experimentalist Jason Williams, is known for his unique blend of minimal, electro-derived beats and sparse, atmospheric electronics. A prominent member of Jonah Sharp's Reflective Records label, Williams has released significant works, including the full-length album "Sonorities by Starlight" and several singles. His music draws inspiration from '70s space music pioneers like Klaus Schulze and Edgar Froese, as well as contemporary artists such as Sharp's Spacetime Continuum, Autechre, MLO, and Move D. Originally a cellist, Williams transitioned to electronic music after selling his first instrument to purchase a sequencer. His debut EP, "Microcosmik," was released in 1994 on Reflective and later featured on the Synoptics compilation. Following live performances at events like the German Love Parade and in San Francisco and Los Angeles, he released the "Clockwork" EP before making his mark with "Sonorities by Starlight," which received favorable comparisons to B12, Deep Space Network, and Atom Heart. Additionally, his work appeared on the Headtravel CD-Plus released by Om Records in 1994.
