Aaron Funk, known professionally as Venetian Snares, was born on January 11, 1975, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is a producer of diverse electronic music, gaining recognition in experimental techno circles after signing to a label run by an unnamed individual. Often referred to as "Vsnares," Funk's unique style is characterized by unconventional time signatures and extremely rapid, erratic rhythms, resulting in an unpredictable and intense listening experience. His work has received critical acclaim, particularly from the late British radio disc jockey John Peel. Funk's debut release was an EP for the History Of The Future Label, followed by releases for Zhark and CLFST. When Mike Paradinas heard his work "Greg Hates Car Culture," he promptly signed Funk to Planet Mu. The first Venetian Snares LP on Planet Mu, a co-production with an unnamed collaborator, was released in early 2001, with five additional releases following before the end of 2002. Throughout his career, Funk has continued to record for various labels, including Hymen, Addict, and Sublight Records, and has also released music under the names Snares Man!, BeeSnares, Snares, and Senetian Vnares.
