**Bio: Venus II** Venus II was an 1980s synth pop duo from New York City, consisting of Cathy Harrington and Mary Phillips. They were regular performers at the historic CBGBs during its most celebrated era, where they were brought together by the club's owner, Hilly Kristal. Kristal also helped record their original demos, including the notable song "Oh Boy," which became a focal point in their live sets. The duo's sound was characterized by their use of Korg M1s, Moog, Roland keyboards, and a Sequential Circuits Six-Trak, creating lush and enchanting music with just their ten fingers. Harrington wrote and sang lead vocals on "Oh Boy," which led to a growing following and attention from record labels. They were approached by Sleeping Bag Records but ultimately connected with Jerry Sylvers' Minneapolis label, Wide Angle Records. In 1987, Venus II recorded "Oh Boy" in Minneapolis with engineer Chopper Black and producer Paul Robb of Information Society. The 12-inch vinyl record was released by Wide Angle/Twin Tone and spent a couple of weeks on the dance charts in Minneapolis. They expressed gratitude to Prince, who liked the song and had it on rotation at his favorite club, First Avenue. The duo's work was later reissued by New Islands/Pleasure of Love in 2025.
