Georges Mateta Kiamuangana, better known as Verckys, was a Congolese saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and producer who played a pivotal role in shaping modern Congolese rumba and soukous. A former member of Franco’s OK Jazz, he went on to form Orchestre Vévé and establish one of the first African-owned record labels, empowering generations of musicians. Known for his dynamic saxophone sound and entrepreneurial spirit, Verckys bridged traditional Congolese rhythms with modern electric grooves, leaving an indelible mark on African music history.
