Vernon Burch was a disco soul singer, songwriter, and guitarist born on July 28, 1955, in Washington, D.C. He passed away on September 23, 2022, at the age of 67. Although he never achieved superstar status, Burch enjoyed a successful decade of hits from 1975 to 1985 and was known for his impressive guitar skills, supporting various renowned artists. His music incorporated elements of Parliament and the funk bands of his time, and he recorded for several labels, including Columbia, United Artists, and Casablanca. Burch achieved notable R&B and dance hits with songs like "Do It To Me" and "Changes." His dance track "Get Up" later served as the foundation for Deee-Lite's hit "Groove Is In The Heart." Burch's contributions to soul music also included his work with legendary R&B acts. He began his career as a teenage prodigy with The Delfonics' band and spent five years with the Bar-Kays, contributing to many Stax Records albums. In the 2000s, he became a minister and recorded "The Inside Out Project" in 2011 as Reverend Vernon Burch.
