**Vicki Anderson** Born on November 21, 1939, in Houston, TX, Vicki Anderson was a prominent soul singer known for her powerful performances. She began her career in 1965 when she joined James Brown's revue, replacing a previous singer and quickly becoming recognized as one of the best female talents in the group. Anderson remained with Brown until 1968, when she was replaced but returned in 1969 after another singer's departure, staying until she left again in 1972. After a brief hiatus from the studio, she resurfaced in 1975 with a single that included a cover of "Hit Once You Get Started" and "Stop On By" on Brown's I-Dentify label, though it did not achieve significant success. In the late 1980s, she regularly performed with James Brown's Funky People revue and collaborated with Bobby Byrd in the early 1990s. In 1994, Anderson made a notable return to the studio by recording Gil Scott-Heron's classic "Home Is Where The Hatred Is," which received positive acclaim. Throughout her career, she has occasionally performed live shows in the US and UK. Vicki Anderson passed away on July 4, 2023.
